Summer scene

NYC has so many great things to offer during the summer. In a place as expensive as NY, thank god there are some free things to do in this big city. This week I got the chance to go to a Free outdoor movie screening. We saw Zoolander at McCarrden Park in Brooklyn, NY. Overall it was a great experience. The event started at 6 with local artist performing (some of them were kind of bad lol). There were so many people. Many vendors were there selling their products as well as giving free samples. The only downfall was that we had to sit on the concrete! I wish it was a park with grass! The movie finally started after sundown. It was a cool vibe and atmosphere. We brought a couple of limaritas and were just chillin. Here’s a list of free movies in NYC… http://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/new-york/outdoor-movie-nyc-calendar

Vacation Mode! Vacation Wardrobe Must-haves of This Summer

20140707-171152-61912046.jpg

As I’m sitting here at work staring at the clock wishing that it was 5 o’clock, my mind keeps wandering and daydreaming about summer. I LIVE, breathe and lust for summer! One of my favorite things about the summer, besides the beach, the fun, the ice cream, the endless amount of daylight (etc.) is summer vacation! It’s the time when we can go out and explore the world around us. Summer here in NY is great. There is so much to do and so much to see. While there is so much do in your hometown, it’s still great to use this opportunity to explore ‘merica! There are several vacation wardrobe must-haves that you NEED this summer!

jumpsuits

A summer vacation wardrobe must-have is definitely a jumpsuit/romper. They are so light and easy to just throw on. You will look super cute and dressy yet you will be so comfy. ¬†They can easily be paired with some heels or flats, chunky necklace or any type of fun summer accessory. ¬†They look great in any pattern, color, or material. ¬†These are a few of my favorites that are cute yet budget friendly. ¬†The olive jumpsuit from New York and Company is only $39! ¬†It features a tie around the waist, which I love because it adds shape and fits nicely around your curves. ¬†It can also camouflage your belly a little bit for those of you who suffer “the bulge” like myself. ¬†The middle one from NecessaryClothing.com features a great flower print that’s perfect for the summer. ¬†It’s for the cute girly girl in all of us. ¬†The last jumpsuit is one of my favorites because, as you can all tell by now, I LOVE leopard print! ¬†It’s the feisty latina in me that makes leopard one of my favorite prints of all! It’s edgy, fun, and sexy.

A pair of white pants or jeans are essential for the summer months. They provide a fresh clean look and can be paired with virtually anything. Another must-have for the summer is a bright colored handbag. The brighter the better! I love hot pink, bright blue, yellow, and purple. ¬†They’re great for brightening up those miserable summer days when you’re stuck inside of an office wishing you were outside. ¬†My favorite accessory for summer is a big floppy hat! They’re perfect for those lazy days spent by the beach or hanging out poolside. ¬†They do a great job of keeping your face from getting sun-burnt, while still staying stylish.

A summer essential hands down is the perfect summer dress. ¬†I wear a dress almost everyday during the summer. ¬†The perfect summer dress is one that is super comfortable and keeps you cool and dry all day long. I love the floral dress pictured from target. ¬†It’s short and flow-y and will keep you feeling great all summer. ¬†A maxi dress is another must for the summer! They basically go with everything! You can pair them with a cute pair of flats or a chunky heel. ¬†You can dress it up or dress it down. ¬†It doesn’t matter how you decide to wear your maxi, you will still look flawless! ¬†Crop tops are also really big this season. ¬†Dare to bare it all in this sexy summer piece. ¬†I own the black one at the top, its from Forever21 and says, “I believe that I love fashion much more than anybody I’ve ever met.” ¬†I love it! ūüôā

Here’s how my summer looks so far!

Bikini Ready! Tame and Manage Unwanted Hair for Smooth Summer Skin:)

20140617-124218-45738054.jpg

With the beautiful summer fun comes the ugly torture of removing unwanted hair! This is something that every women dreads during the summer months when we often wear less and expose ourselves more. Unwanted hair can be embarrassing. For some women like me, it can be more a nuisance than for others. Thankfully there are solutions to unwanted fuzz, although most of the time, the solution is painful. OUch!

I recently came across this place called European Wax Centers. I was referred to EWC by a friend. I decided to try it out. EWC has over 600 locations around the country. I went to the one in Forest Hills, NY. EWC offers many products and services for ok prices. Some of the services are a little pricey in my opinion, but if you want good quality care, you have to pay for it. If you are a first time customer, you either get a free eyebrow, bikini line, or underarm wax, or you can get any other service for half off. I decided to get a Full Bikini, which was originally $40, but I paid half because I was a first time customer.

My waxist was a nice Indian woman named Rima. She was very patient with me (I’m the biggest baby when it comes to stuff like this!) and she explained everything that she was going to do as well as every product that she was going to use. Overall it was a great experience! Although it hurt, it was somewhat bearable! One thing I didn’t like about EWC was that they were trying to sell you stuff as soon as you walked in the door. You should let your services and products speak for themselves, you shouldn’t have to try hard to sell it. That was the only negative experience I had. They convinced me to buy their Serum to prevent ingrown hairs. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now I don’t see huge difference, but I’m going to try it for a little longer, maybe my skin has to get used to it.

20140617-124216-45736166.jpg

When it comes to eyebrows, I only get them threaded now a days. It hurts like hell but threading provides more of an accurate result than waxing, in my opinion. For the past year, I’ve been going to Unique Threading Salon in Midtown Manhattan. It’s a nice threading salon that also provides waxing services and facials. Everyone in their is super nice and patient. For me, it’s so convenient because I work right across the street. I pretty much let anyone do my eyebrows there (mostly because I can never remember who did my eyebrows last….lol). I even get my legs waxed here occasionally, and it is virtually pain free! They also offer a sugar wax that’s supposed to be less painful and better for your skin.

In all my research about best hair removal practices, the best advice that I’ve found is to exfoliate your skin. If you shave, it is important to exfoliate first because exfoliating helps to get ride of the dead skin that could clog your razor. Exfoliating also helps to decrease ingrown hairs that may occur. If you want your skin to be smooth to the touch, you must exfoliate. It is extremely important to moisturize after shaving and waxing! Shaving and Waxing can remove much needed moisture from your skin, it is very important to bring back the moisture that is lost after removing hair. After shaving, I typically apply cocoa butter or Aloe Vera or some type of vitamin E. After waxing, you may want to avoid putting anything on your skin for 12-24 hours because your pores are open and it may irritate your skin. For the first 12-24 hours after waxing, you may want to only put an ingrown hair prevention serum.

20140617-124217-45737160.jpg

Hair removal is basically a trial and error process for most people. Everyone is different so methods that work for some, may not work on others. I am mixed with Puerto Rican and Black, so my hair is thick and curly. It’s a little difficult for me to remove hair from some parts of my body because of the thickness. My skin is very prone to ingrown hairs and bumps, especially on the bikini line and on my underarms. It’s all a work in process.

There are many options for hair removal, you should try them to see what works best for you.
1. Shaving is probably the easiest and (relatively) cheapest method of hair removal. Shaving cuts hair super close to the skin, not from the root, so for women with thicker hair, it may cause ingrowns and infections. When shaving, it is important to wet the hair thoroughly and shave in the direction that hair grows. Shaving is basically painfree, but unfortunately the results don’t last long. Hair can grow back in a few hours or a few days.

2. Waxing removes the hair from the root and last much longer than shaving. Waxing can last 3-6 weeks. Waxing is a little pricey. At home kits are available, but I would suggest to get your wax done at a salon, especially for areas such as the bikini line. At salons, however, you must be careful that the waxist does not double dip. Make sure your waxist doesn’t place the same stick in the wax twice.

20140617-124215-45735785.jpg

3. Laser-hair removal is a costlier option, although some may argue that it’s cheaper than long-term waxing or shaving. A laser is used to destroy the hair’s root permanently. It usually takes about 6-8 sessions to permanently remove the hair. Touch-up sessions are advised. The problem with laser is that it doesn’t work on everyone. The best candidates for laser hair removal are women with fair or light skin and dark hair. I tried laser hair removal and it seems like the hair grew right back. My skin is too tan.

4. Depilatories are a popular method for hair removal. These creams use a chemical to dissolve the protein that make up the hair. Depilatories are said to last a little longer than shaving, but not as long as waxing. Depilatories are not recommended for the genital area or eyebrows.

20140617-124219-45739866.jpg

5. Tweezing is a method that pulls hair from the root. Tweezing is kind of painful and is best used for small areas such as eyebrows, lip, or chin.

6. Threading is an ancient technique that uses a thin thread to pluck hair at the follicle level. Typically used for eyebrows, it provides more of a precise control. Since it doesn’t use any chemicals, it is better for your skin that waxing.

Guys don’t understand how hard it is to be a girl! Feel free to try different methods and let me know how it works out for you. If unwanted hair is a real problem for you, or you may think it is do to a hormonal imbalance, you may want to seek professional help from a dermatologist. Good luck in these summer months ladies. ūüôā Stay smooth.

Fun in the sun! Ocean City Beach

Yesterday my friends and I went to Ocean City Beach, NJ! It was a beautiful day, perfect Sunday to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC. #sundayfunday

20140609-124404-45844989.jpg

We headed to Jersey around 9am and finally arrived around noon. It was beautiful. The OC is such a pretty beach town with beautiful houses. It seemed like a nice community with very nice people. As we were driving around, we saw people just hanging out in the yard, everyone, of course had on bathing suits in the street. They had a number of nice restaurants, many of course were seafood joints. The boardwalk was so nice and featured many places to eat, hang out and play. Almost every place served crab cakes, funnel cakes, corn dogs and curly fries!

Overall it was a nice mini-road trip. Next time, I would definitely stay there for the weekend. The boardwalk had a Ferris wheel and a mini-water park. It was such a beautiful day. I encourage you all to go visit NJ! http://www.ocnj.us/

Curly Hair Don’t Care: Gorgeous Summer Curls Now!

It’s finally that time of year again people! ¬†The time for BBQ’s, short shorts, crop tops, and beautiful beach hair! ¬†All my people up north know that we deserve this warm weather, especially after the insane winter we experienced. ¬†It’s time to be summertime fine:) ¬†During the summer, no one wants to spend time fussing with the flat iron or the blow dryer, especially when the humidity is going to turn your hair into a frizz ball anyway. ¬†Here’s how to make the best the summer and get beautiful frizz-free summer curls that are beach, pool and BBQ ready.
friday
The key to beautiful curls is moisture! ¬†Hair needs to be well moisturized and conditioned, otherwise it’ll be dry, frizzy, and limp. ¬†No matter if I decide to style my hair curly or straight, deep conditioner is my best friend. ¬†One of my favorite deep conditioners is a Wheat Germ Mask by Salerm. ¬†I usually apply it once a week with a conditioning cap. ¬†It keeps my dry, thick hair well balanced and moisturized. ¬†For a more natural conditioner, you can also use foods you already have in your kitchen. ¬†You can make your own conditioner using one egg, a couple spoonfuls of mayonnaise, and a tea spoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. ¬†Avocado and bananas also work to moisturize and condition the hair.

salermconditionernatural

Now adays, there are tons of products on the market for curly hair. ¬†It’s a game of trial and error. ¬†If you hair is fine, you may only need mousse. ¬†If your hair is thicker, you may need a leave-in conditioner or a curly custard or styler. ¬†Some great brands that I’ve tried are Mixed Chicks, Cantu, Kinky-Curly, Curls Unleased and Miss Jessie’s. One product in particular that my roommate recently tried and loves is Miss Jessie’s Multi-Cultural Curls.

But wait, lettme take a selfie:) ¬†Let’s get selfie ready and let the summer fun begin!! ¬†Another tip for curly fun in the sun is if you’re going to use different products on your hair, try your best to use the same brand. ¬†For example, Kinky-Curly’s styling custard goes best with Kinky-Curly’s Knot- today leave-in detangler. ¬†Of course, everyone’s hair is different so if different products work for you, great. ¬†Depending on the product, you can use a diffuser after application or just let it it hair-dry. ¬†Typically in the summer, I let my hair air-dry. ¬†It feels soo good to have wet hair in the NY heat. ¬†Follow me on instragram @Mi55Tiffani and show me some of your fav summertime styles! ¬†Summer has just begun my friends:)

Summertime fine :)

I’m back ladies and gentlemen! It’s been a little while but I’m back to doing what I love….blogging! These past couple months I’ve been crazy busy! I’m finishing up my Master’s at St. John’s University, trying to pursue my “dream career”, and working like crazy! I’m actually working at Macy’s in the corporate buying office. I am a Merchant Office Assistant in the Fine Jewelry department. (Fancy title that basically means I do boring clerical work). I’m learning a ton about the retail world. It’s brutal out there! My favorite part about the job is going out with vendors. The vendors treat us amazing (cause they want our business!) I’ve never had so many free lunches until I started working here! Anyway these have been some of my favorite summer outfits so far…hope everyone is having an amazing summer! More to come!

Obama vs. Romney: Case of Who Wore it Best, First Lady Edition

The buzz from last night’s debate between Obama and Romney was less about who debated better and more about who wore it better: Michelle Obama vs. Ann Romney. Both of the wonderful women wore the exact same shade of pink. Was it a coincidence or was it in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Or did their stylists peak into each other’s closets? The First lady wore a Michael Kors dress with a matching cropped jacket that flattered her shape very well. She wore a simple strand of pearls. I love pearls, to me they show poise and elegance. Mrs. Romney wore a cap-sleeved textured dressed and accessorized it with double-stranded turquoise beads. I am not a fan of the way Romney accessorized her outfit. It was very playful, but I do not think it was appropriate for a serious, crucial debate. Plus I feel that her outfit was a bit matronly and not as classy as Obama’s attire. I think Obama won this debate. So what do you guys think, who wore it better? Rock the Vote!

Animal Instincts: My Leopard-print Obsession

Picture Courtesy of Ego Closet Blog

So as it appears, I think I’m a little obsessed with leopard-print! Today on my window-shopping journey in Manhattan, I came across a ton of leopard print dresses, jackets, handbags, shoes and accessories. Leopard print is a statement that is not going away! I went to Saks Fifth Avenue and the first thing that caught my eyes were the Christian Louboutin Handbags pictured below. Right away I feel in love with the big tote-sized one to the left. I loved how the black toned down the leopard to display a more suttle look. All of these bags were made out of pony-hair (something I find sad, and do not agree with, but hey, it adds to the value).

After I left Saks, I went window shopping at the Michael Kors store across the street on Fifth Avenue. Sure enough, the first handbags I see are the beautiful MK leopard print ones pictured below. It was a sign from above showing me what I wanted for Christmas ;). Unfortunately, this handbag is also calf hair…I’d feel horrible knowing a calf was harmed simply for fashion. I’d rather eat a cow, not wear one. As my window shopping venture continued, I ended up at Macy’s Herald Square. (My favorite place in that HUGE Macy’s is the Junior’s shoe Department (: ) I came across these cute Jessica Simpson pumps that were just reduced to $60! Jessica Simpson is also a big fan of leopard print and isn’t afraid to show it in many of her designs.

I love leopard print so much, I even make my dog wear it! This is my baby, Precious wrapped up in her like leopard print blanket. She loves it!! Doesn’t she look like a little fashionista?

My only problem with leopard print is that sometimes, people do not know how to wear it! Sometimes people wear tooo much leopard print and it begins to look trashy instead of fashionable. If you are wearing a leopard print blouse, you do not need leopard pants, handbag, shoes, nails, earrings, ring, nose ring, tongue ring to match. Moderation is key!! With prints, you can easily to go from looking trendy to looking a hot mess in an instant. Leopard should be fun, sexy, flirty, and wild. Don’t be afraid to let your inner animal out!

Thrifty Decisions: Great Deals & Amazing Prices

Looking for that perfect outfit, jacket, shoes or accessory but don’t have a lot of money to spare? Shopping on a budget or you just want an item that is truly “vintage”? Well, thrift shopping is a great way to get lots of amazing clothing articles, accessories, and shoes for dirt cheap while still looking great. It may sound extremely clich√© but the fact of the matter is, “One Man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. You’d be amazed at the quality of items people throw away! At many thrift stores, you’ll find items that are gently worn , almost-new, and even brand new! The key to thrift shopping is going to shops in the right areas. Many people (I find myself guilty of this as well), throw out or donate good quality clothes! We wear something once, and get tired of it quickly or we buy a cute blouse, but it’s too small and it’s too late to return it to the store. Clothes/shoes/accessories deserve a second-time around! In New York City, you can find many thrift shops, second-hand stores, and consignment shops that have many fabulous finds.

I landed this brand-new suit, tickets still attached and all, for FIFTEEN DOLLARS! at a Thrift Store located in Roslyn, NY called the Junior League Thrift shop. It was a beautiful lined-suit that was easily worth $100+ dollars. Where else can you buy a brand-new quality suit for $15?! All young people attempting to make their way into the job market need a suit like this. I actually wore this suit on one interview so far, and the interviewer kept complimenting me on how great I looked!

My friend landed these almost-new BCBG glittery-gold pumps for just $25 from the same location. She also landed a cute orange skirt for just $1! Yes, one-dollar! You never know what you may find if you just look. The best part about the thrift store was that the proceeds go to charity.

My friend Antoinette is a frequent thrift store shopper. She scored this great outfit from a thrift store in Downtown Brooklyn, NY. Her cute peek-a-boo white blouse and her sky-blue skinny jeans with flowers were just $10 each! Great price for a great outfit! Especially a last minute outfit for a trip to Atlantic City! =)

I went to two separate Halloween parties last year and I did not want to buy a new Halloween costume. Instead I bought this purple bustier for $10 and this black/white plaid shirt for $5 from a thrift store in West Hempstead on Hempstead Turnpike. I paired the bustier with a playful mask and tights and there was my first costume for $10! I paired the plaid shirt with shorts and I was a cowgirl for the next party. Why not buy your costume from thrift stores and save money?!?! It only takes a few pieces to come up with a cool costume.

There are so many thrift stores throughout NYC and Long Island. Buffalo Exchange is a great “recycled” clothing store found in various parts of the country. I found a brand new Kathy Van Zeeland purse for just $15 there. Finding good like-new to new name brand clothes is all about going to the right area! Try to go to stores in prominent areas. They say NYC is the best place to find great deals. Shop around! Don’t be a afraid shop second-hand, it’s always better the second-time around! =)

Fashion Week! Miss Shannon Shenone

On September 12 during New York Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of attending a fabulous show presented by The Fashion and Arts Xchange. The show took place at the beautiful Sky Room Times Square on a breathtaking rooftop that provided an amazing view of Manhattan. The show featured several designers that included Renee France Designs, Franklin Rowe and a good friend of mine, Shannon Shenone Chic. Me and Shannon are pictured at the top. Here are some pieces from Shannon Shenone’s collection. What do you guys think?

Shannon Shenone started designing at the tender age of 11 making her first collection of handbags. Since then, she always knew she wanted to be a designer.
